4 Tips for a Happy Healthy Fall

Take advantage of everything autumn has to offer by getting strategic. Here are four things you can do to plan for your best fall yet.

1. Make an outdoor adventure bucket list.

Make a list of the adventures you’d like to go on this season. This is a great way to change up your exercise routine and make some fun memories with friends and family. Here are some things to think about to get you started:

  • Would any hiking trails give you a great vantage point of fall colors?
  • What bike rides will you not be able to do when the roads are icy?
  • Are there any local lakes or rivers that you haven’t paddled recently?

Include friends and family when you’re making your list, so you have something to look forward to together!

2. Plan meals with in-season fruits and veggies.

There are many benefits that come with eating in-season produce. It encourages shopping local, saves money and offers an extra nutrition kick. Here are the fruits and veggies that are in season during the fall:

  • Apples
  • Cranberries
  • Beets
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Pumpkin

First, find some healthy recipes that incorporate one or more of these. Then, head to your local farmer’s market and see what you can find! Aiming for one seasonal recipe a week is a great place to start.

3. Set aside time to savor the season.

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year – but it can get chaotic pretty quickly! To help keep your mental health in check, plan little breaks every day to slow down and enjoy the season. Here are some ideas:

  • Drink your morning coffee on the porch without multitasking.
  • Take a brisk morning walk (bonus points if you go without earphones in).
  • Eat one of your daily meals outside.
  • Go on a long walk in the evening.

Some days you might have 30 minutes, others you might only have 5 – anything is better than nothing. Slowing down gives your brain a rest and will help you feel recharged for the rest of your day.

4. Schedule your annual physical.

If it’s been awhile since you saw your doctor, schedule your annual physical. There are a lot of benefits that come from seeing your doctor regularly. Plus, if you make a point to see them around the same time every year, you’re more likely to remember!
