Biography

Philosophy of care
Each patient is uniquely formed by their own history, lifestyle and preferences. I believe in taking the time to actively listen to my patients in an attempt to truly understand their perspective and to provide personalized care.

Why Sara went into medicine
I practiced as an occupational therapist for 7 years at Aspirus St. Luke's, spending most of my time on the 8 West Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. I started to develop a desire to influence patient care in the initial stages of their injury or illness and guiding that care as a provider.

I pursued further education to align my career goals with the passion I had for direct patient care and preventative medicine. This afforded me the opportunity to practice in a specialty, like ENT, and to utilize my primary care and preventative medicine skills as a member of the National Guard.

Favorite advice to give to patients
Knowledge is of utmost importance when making decisions about the care of your body. I encourage my patients to ask questions and get involved in their care by having open conversations and providing education. I make sure to be available and take the time to explain things at every stage of their care.

Hometown
My parents were both active duty in the United States Air Force, so naturally we moved about every 4 years. I came to Duluth for my undergraduate degree and have lived here for longer than I have lived anywhere else in my life.

Hobbies
I spend a lot of time with my family outside. We enjoy hiking, kayaking, biking and swimming. When the weather changes, we like to ice fish, snowmobile, downhill/cross country ski. We also travel as often as we can and attend numerous sports events to support our children in athletics.
