Diagnostic Testing and Screening
Finding the cause of GI pain is necessary for appropriate treatment. Our gastroenterology team is experienced in many types of diagnostic, screening and testing procedures for both common and complex disorders. Our medical professionals are highly trained in areas of clinical endoscopy, including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, esophageal manometry (PH monitoring), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound.
Additional services include:
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP): This procedure combines endoscopy and X-ray to diagnose conditions of the bile and pancreatic ducts. Patients are sedated as the doctor inserts a tube-like camera down the esophagus and into the stomach.
- Manometry: This test is often used to diagnose and treat the cause of heartburn, swallowing difficulties and chest pains not related to the heart. Manometry measures how well the esophagus is able to move food and fluids down into the stomach. It also gives the doctor a chance to examine the valve connecting the stomach to the esophagus.
- Capsule Endoscopy: This is a noninvasive test where youswallow a pill which contains a small camera. The camera will take pictures as it travels through the digestive system. These pictures are sent to a wireless recorder that you will wear around your waist. This exam is useful for detecting polyps and other abnormalities in the stomach and small intestine. The capsule endoscopy will leave your body on its own in a couple of days.
- BRAVO™ Reflux Testing: This test allows your doctor to measure the frequency and severity of acid reflux symptoms. A small capsule will be attached to the esophagus. This capsule will measure pH levels in the esophagus and send them to a wireless recorder worn on a belt around your waist. The capsule will remain there for a few days to record information.
