COVID-19 Vaccine at St. Luke’s
Safe and effective immunizations for your protection
The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect against severe disease, hospitalization, and death. Vaccine protection decreases over time, so it's important to stay up to date. Please refer to the Centers for Disease Control website for the latest information related to COVID-19 and vaccines.
To schedule a COVID-19 vaccine, call your primary care clinic.
Why to get the vaccine
In addition to offering personal protection, widespread vaccination establishes herd immunity. This is essential for controlling the spread of COVID-19 within communities, especially to those who are more vulnerable to severe illness, such as the elderly, individuals with underlying health conditions, or those who cannot receive the vaccine for medical reasons.
Vaccines we offer: Moderna and Novavax
Aspirus St. Luke's offers both the Moderna and Novavax COVID-19 vaccines.
Moderna is an mRNA vaccine known for its high effectiveness in preventing COVID-19, including severe cases. It is available for patients 6 months and older at primary care clinics. Much like an annual flu shot, an annual COVID-19 vaccine is recommended. The Moderna vaccine can be received even if the recipient previously received a dose from another manufacturer (such as Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson).
Novavax is a protein subunit vaccine. It is available for anyone ages 12 and older. It’s recommended for those who have had an adverse reaction to an mNRA vaccine or who do not want to receive a mNRA vaccine.
- If a patient has never received a COVID-19 vaccine, they will receive a two-shot series of Novavax, 21 days apart.
- If a patient previously received any type of COVID-19 vaccine, Novavax is a one-shot vaccine that can be given if it’s been at least two months since the patient’s last COVID shot. For more information on Novavax, go to the FDA’s website.
Novavax is available at Aspirus St. Luke's Denfeld Medical Clinic. When scheduling your appointment, specify that you would like the Novavax vaccine.
Flu Shots
Flu shots and COVID vaccines can be given at the same time. When calling your primary care clinic to schedule your COVID vaccine appointment, you can request to also receive your flu shot.
