Laughter is the best medicine and St. Luke’s Employee Wellness is serving up a dose at Leif Erikson Park. The event is one of many being held for Mental Health Awareness Month during May through Northland Healthy Minds, which St. Luke’s is a member of.
Laughter yoga is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter and is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. Laughter yoga will be conducted in a group session with eye contact and playfulness between participants. Forced laughter turns into real and contagious laughter. Laughter yoga brings more oxygen to the brain and body by incorporating yogic breathing, which results in deep diaphragmatic breathing.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this free event. Wear comfortable clothing. There is no need for exercise equipment or workout clothes. For more information, email info@northlandhealthyminds.org. Northland Healthy Minds is a collaborative of businesses, organizations and people in Northeastern Minnesota and Douglas County, Wisconsin, working together to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness through community outreach and education so that all those affected by mental illness know how to seek support and resources without the barriers created by stigma.
