Understanding the Difference Between Neurotoxins & Fillers

When it comes to addressing wrinkles, in conjunction with establishing a good skincare routine and preventing sun damage neurotoxins and dermal fillers can be great options.

Although both procedures can help you achieve a smooth and youthful look, they are used for different outcomes. Here’s what you should know.

Neurotoxins for Wrinkles

Neurotoxins are neuromodulators made from Clostridium botulinum bacteria. At St. Luke’s Rejuvenation Center, we offer the following brands of neurotoxins:

  • Botox
  • Dysport
  • Xeomin

When injected into muscles, neurotoxins inhibit movements and smooth outlines.

Typically, neurotoxins appropriate for wrinkles that develop and deepen naturally with age, including those:

  • Around the eyes
  • Around the mouth
  • Between the eyebrows
  • On the forehead

However, it is important to keep in mind that the process takes up to 14 days for results and its effects will last about 3-4 months.

Dermal Fillers for Wrinkles

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected under the skin. Dermal fillers help restore volume, smooth and soften lines, or enhance facial contours. They are most appropriate for smoothing out lines around the nose and mouth, enhancing and restoring volume to cheeks, diminishing vertical lip lines, plumping and enhancing lips, and balancing facial rejuvenation in the chin.
