Posted On:

WHEN: Friday, June 28, 2024

TIME: 1 – 2:30 pm

WHERE: St. Scholastica Health Sciences Center, Room 234, 940 Woodland Ave. Duluth,

WHAT: AspirusSt. Luke’s Hospital Regional Trauma Center will conduct free CarFit check-ups to help seniors find a better fit with their cars for comfort, safety and mobility. CarFit is a national program developed by AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association. The program is designed to give a quick yet comprehensive check on how well older drivers and their vehicles work together.

As people age, changes in vision, flexibility, strength, range of motion, size and height make them less comfortable and reduce their control behind the wheel.

At the CarFit event, trained volunteers complete a 12-point checklist with each driver. Among the items checked are position of driver’s seat, driver’s ability to reach pedals and proper adjustments of mirrors. Occupational therapists are also on hand to provide a consultation that will teach drivers how to maintain and improve aspects of driving health.
