Aspirus St. Luke’s Celebrates Opening of New Cardiac Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit & Skywalk
Organization and community leaders gathered at Aspirus St. Luke’s to celebrate the grand opening of the new Cardiac Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit and skywalk.
The transformative $58 million, 83,000 square-foot expansion is designed to elevate patient care and enhance health services. This marks the completion of phase two of the Health Forward Initiative. The project features improvements that will make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the community.
“We’re thrilled to offer our patients these state-of-the-art units, which will allow them to heal in the most supportive and comfortable environment possible,” Aspirus Minnesota Region President Dr. Nick Van Deelen said. “These upgrades not only benefit our patients, but also empower our staff. The new space provides them with the latest tools and technologies, enabling them to deliver the highest quality care in the most efficient way.”
The multi-faceted project includes:
- Nearly 60 new private patient rooms
- A skywalk that connects Building A to Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospital for greater accessibility and convenience
- New patient monitoring system and overhead lifts to assist staff with patient care
- A more efficient layout with three nursing pods per floor and spaces designed by care teams
- A sustainable and energy efficient design to ensure optimal environmental and fiscal performance
- Capitalizing on natural sunlight in the design and selecting windows that feature extremely energy efficient glass
- Transforming Aspirus St. Luke’s current inpatient units into all-new finishes and all-private rooms
The Health Forward Initiative is a multi-faceted project that includes a new city-owned, state-funded parking ramp that was completed last summer.
Erdman led design and construction on the new units. The Cardiac Care Unit opens to patients on Tuesday, January 28 and the Intensive Care Unit opens on Wednesday, January 29.
